A member of the National Association of Corporate Directors he served for 8 years on an international, publicly traded Board, and 12 years on two privately-held corporate Boards. He has three decades experience on several community not-for-profit boards, NGOs, as well as 12 years on a liberal arts college Board. He has held faculty positions at three universities, and lectured at such institutions as the University of San Francisco, Notre Dame University and Stanford University. He has been Professor of International Studies on several voyages of the Semester at Sea program (and is currently Chair of the Faculty Council Board of Directors) at the University of Virginia. He recently served as Visiting Professor of Leadership & Innovation, Mendoza School of Business, at Notre Dame University's Latin American MBA programs in Mexico and Colombia. He has a Ph.D. in Sociology.
